Development of an instantaneous velocity-vector-profile method using conventional ultrasonic transducers

Abstract A velocity vector profile technique based on an ultrasound pulsed Doppler method can enrich the information flow field. However, it has shown low availability because a new design of special transducers is required for each measurement case. This study proposes profiling vectors using conventional that are widely supplied to users. We constructed configuration minimize uncertainty detection points at receivers, and measurable distance was theoretically determined by configuration. Two feasibility tests were carried out. One test assessment distance, which agreed well with theoretical distance. The other evaluation 2D method, performed in towing tank facility without fluctuation. From evaluation, confirmed measured showed good agreement reference values, their accuracy precision competitive compared previous studies. In order demonstrate this, developed applied two unsteady flows. results clarified proposed guarantees high profiles.
